MEET THE CANDIDATE

Dr. Rosalind Osgood has been a champion for the people of Broward County. As State Senator for District 33, Dr. Rosalind Osgood will continue to work tirelessly for the children, the elderly, the homeless and all working people.

As a native of Broward County, Florida, Dr. Rosalind Osgood has dedicated her life and professional career to public service as a community advocate, proponent for children, educator, and author. Currently, Dr. Osgood serves as the District 5 representative for the Broward County School Board, where she has held the position of School Board Chairwoman twice. She has served in this capacity for the past nine years and has done so with diligence, zeal, and passion. She is also the Chief Executive Officer of Mount Olive Development Corporation (MODCO).

Dr. Osgood has initiated and/or participated in numerous community outreach programs that are focused on improving the lives of individuals and families. She has also spearheaded many community coalitions aimed at eradicating homelessness and enhancing the lives of Broward County’s residents. Many of these programs are focused on ensuring long-term community development for Broward County as well as programs that tackle socio-economic issues that burden the most vulnerable among us. She has advocated for the disenfranchised, fought for children and served the elderly. Dr. Osgood has organized and provided over 10,000 meals to Broward County’s senior population and at-risk residents throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic and provided affordable housing to over 750 families in Broward County. In an effort to help fight the Global Covid-19 Pandemic, she partnered with a local church to provide over 2,400 residents with vaccines.

Dr. Osgood is a member of several professional organizations and/or boards including, but not limited to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of the Links, Inc.  She is a Board Member on the Broward Health Coalition Board, the Circuit 17 Juvenile Justice Board, the Broward Black Chamber of Commerce Board, and the Broward County State Attorney’s Prosecutorial Performance Indicator Advisory Board.

The bedrock of her strength is her strong faith. She serves as an Associate Minister at New Mount Olive Baptist Church and was the first woman in the history of that church to be licensed, ordained, and positioned in the pulpit as a preacher. She was also the first female chaplain of the City of Ft. Lauderdale Police Department. She believes strongly in building a beloved interfaith community.

Dr. Osgood’s motto is ”Overcome Obstacles by Optimizing Opportunities and Obtaining Outstanding Outcomes.”  With this motto in mind, Dr. Osgood has obtained “outstanding outcomes” by earning both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree in Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University and also earning a Public Service Leadership Credential from Harvard Kenny School. Additionally, she earned a Master’s of Divinity Degree from New Orleans Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Osgood has received numerous awards to include the JM Families African American Achiever’s Award for community service,  “Woman of the Year” Award from The Dade County Charmettes, Inc., Family Strengthen Award from South Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and the Broward County Urban League’s Kathleen Wright Community Service Award to name a few.
